I miss coffee.
And I can’t even say that this month was completely caffeine-free, because I’ve cheated a few times.
Oh, well, it’s not a competition.
The weather is still too hot for me, meaning that I never get enough sleep. I’ve finally been to Croatia to visit my family after 3 years, and even by the seaside, it was way too hot.
It was also pretty. It always is.
And, of course, it was great to finally see my family. And to give my brother a bunch of hardcover comics and some books.
And to look at the sea.
I did say I’d have some nice pictures to add this month, didn’t I?
After the trip, it took me some time to recover. Traveling back was extremely uncomfortable, and then I had stuff to do instead of sleeping.
Not that I’m complaining. Not much. I’m glad I got the chance to finally travel a bit.
And after that, it was back to usual: reading, watching stuff, work (not that there was much), even some writing of my own.
Currently reading: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Cool stuff. And some stuff I didn’t know, which is great. What’s not so great is that I’ve foolishly assumed this would all be stuff I already know…but hey, I’m learning new things, and we all make foolish mistakes sometimes.
Recently read: Paganin by Boban Knežević (part secret history with Aleister Crowley and Veselin Čajkanović, part folklore tales, part Lovecraft, even a little bit of pulp fiction…and definitely fun), The Father Christmas Letters by Tolkien (lovely), A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers (wonderful if you want something that’s just darn nice), What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher (intriguing horror, now I want to keep reading all of her books), Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott (I would have liked it better if I’d read it about twenty years ago, but it’s still useful), A Self-Help Guide for Copywriters by Dan Nelken (a fun and useful book for, well, copywriters, mostly about ads and slogans), Zen in the Art of Writing by Ray Bradbury (if you need something to inspire you to write, try this book), and Rewild by Davin Grayson and Yana Adamovic (illustrations), a comic about ecology and with Shakespearean fairies, and with beautiful art.
Currently watching: nothing. Planning to watch a bunch of movies and series, but…
Recently watched: The Sandman (the first series I watched after I got back; some of it was too slow, some episodes felt like fillers, but there was plenty of good, too, and I’ll be happy to watch the next season when it comes out), and Criminal: UK (a total of two seasons (three plus four episodes), both really good; a psychological police procedural shot in two rooms and a hallway, and with excellent actors).
Currently working on: work, when there’s any (there was plenty on the day when I started writing this post). Plus I wrote four stories. So… Good for me, I guess? I should be writing more.
And that’s pretty much it this time, see you next month!
